How to tell which processes are using network bandwidth....
I'm seeing (netmeter) a small but noticeable amount of background network traffic and I'm trying to find a way of displaying the amount of network traffic from current processes...
...anyone got any ideas/tools that show this or allow it to be calculated ?

There's no doubt a whole bunch of utilities/tools etc but something like Port Monster might fit the bill...

Hi NEo - thanks for the suggestion - I've already got Portmonster and a couple of sysinternals tools which show lots of info about which ports are open and which processes are using them but none (so far) which esily show the network utilisation for the provesses - I was hoping that someone had found something like task mangager which allowed you to add a column for network utilisation.....

OK, how about Port Reporter?
I shan't code anything just yet because we all know how that can end:

I've used netlimiter in the past to throttle individual connections and apps. Should do what you want and show you the app using bandwidth.
Also allows you to throttle p2p stuff outside of the actual app (which presumes it has unlimited access - hence gives full download speed)

HI Folks - thanks for all the suggestions
I'm curently using a combination of the MS Port Reporter and it's partner Log Analysis tool combined with the Sysinternals Process Explorer which is probbaly sufficient but I have been unable to track down anything that will coherently display the process info and associated network utilisation stats - I'm guessing that it's not that easy to differentiate the network I/O from disk I/O etc. as all the replacement task managers seem to only be able to display the same set of entries as the MS one.....
(haven't tried netlimiter yet but will try the trial version later)
Thanks again

No problem, Shoto ...I have looked at the NetLimiter Monitor and it looks pretty good, so that might be an 'all in one' solution...it will show processes, process owners, paths etc

also shows individual IP's which are being connected to/from....so for exaple, you could throttle one particular p2p leecher who might be uploading have your HD and killing download speeds....assuming you use p2p, obviously for legit reasons.

Resurrecting this one with a slightly different slant......
Been trying out netlimiter pro and was wondering if anyone knows how to use it to limit access by username ? .....or if it's not possible does anyone know of an alternative which would allow user access to the internet to be controlled by schedule - either by predefined slots or/and by total time used ?
