Hi,
I just wanted to ask what's better:?
1. To have my modem set to bridged mode and then enter PPPoE details in my router
or
2. To setup PPPoE details in the modem and router to Dynamic IP DHCP
bridge mode or not?
Re: bridge mode or not?
If you are using a good router then it is recommended to run modem in full bridge pppoe mode - there's only one set of nat tables and upnp/ port forwards on main router should work without issue. It can be difficult to access the modem web gui for config/log/adsl stats though - but if using 3rd party firmware such as dd-wrt or tomato there are ways to fix this.
You cannot 'full bridge' pppoa, so you have to run either in 'double nat + dmz' or 'half-bridge' mode if this is your only connection method.

Re: bridge mode or not?
I'm using a Dlink DIR-655 http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=530, I guess that can be considered cheap bad?

Re: bridge mode or not?
From the specs, I think it should be fine. Don't know much about it though!

Re: bridge mode or not?
Had to call my ISP to enable me to use bridge mode for my modem. The modem works, and I can login via PPPoE with win7 but when I set the DIR-655 to do the PPPoE login it doesn't connect.
I thought it might be the ISP not being happy with two MAC addresses (modem & router) so I tried to clone the modems MAC to the Router but still no luck.
Is there any other settings I might be missing?
Thanks

Re: bridge mode or not?
Problem solved.
I entered MAC 00:00:00:00:00 into the router and it solved it
