What is the latest Conexant AccessRunner firmware?

Post by mjr4077au » Wed Apr 02, 2008 2:35 pm

What is the latest Conexant AccessRunner firmware?

I have a NetComm NB1300Plus4 which has the latest firmware of:

CONEXANT SYSTEMS, INC.
ACCESS RUNNER ADSL CONSOLE PORT 3.52

Version Information

Firmware Version: CX82xxx_4.1.0.38
Showtime Version: 3.52
Customer Software Version: NB1300_6_1038_1SD

This firmware is rather bugged as the line speed is pretty bad after upgrading to it but it is significantly newer than any other firmware I've seen for the AccessRunner platform.

The NB1300Plus4 is based off a "Well Communication Corp ASU-8400". This company is now defunct, but does anyone have the last firmware from Well for the ASU-8400? I believe it's also called a "ASR-8400" by a company called "Origo".

Any ideas or input would be good, though I know this forum is pretty AR7-based...

You may wish to check out what's available on the connexant router repair CD here JMK is pretty good and reliable when I've used it in the past :-

I have checked out that CD and have already burnt it. I was either going to put that one on as it seems recommended everywhere or I was going to put NetComms 4.1.0.21-based firmware on.

How "generic" is the JMK firmware? Is it close to what Conexant would have put out?

I had read all those links except for the last one with the outdated FAQ which provided some good information. Thanks for that.

I'll give it a go on the weekend. I was mainly wondering about the firmware as no version I've seen is over 4.1.0.25, though the bad NetComm firmware is based off of 4.1.0.38. The JMK looks like a good firmware and I'll put that on over the weekend. Despite it been a pretty closed source router which you guys probably don't like, this was a really good and stable router when it was working. I'll be happy to bring it back to its former glory.

Oh yes, I quite agree, I've only recently stopped using my Origo ASR-8400.

As you say, they don't win any brownie points for not releasing the source and in many cases the factory firmware was rubbish but with the right firmware these things are rock solid. I have a stable ADSL connection and the Origo ASR-8400 managed uptimes of weeks on end, seemingly without dropping the ADSL connection or needing a reboot.

While my netgear has given me a speed/performance boost its stability hasn't even come close.

Interestingly enough, none of the firmware off the Repair CD would work. I had to get a specially made one for the NB1300 and use NetComm's v4.1.0.21-based firmware (Was my original intention anyway)

Making the post with it now. Now, back in the cupboard ye goes till a storm kills the DrayTek.

Hi guys

I made the mistake the other day of flashing my firmware for my NB1300 Plus4.
Thought the firmware Netcomm provide against this product on their site should work - I was wrong.
I thought maybe they'd upgraded the unit with port ranging maybe as it's only got 20 slots available.
Now I'm prolly going to buy another as my wireless router (Belkin F5D7230-4) died in the heat the other day.
Thing is this has been a good unit for years and I'd love to get hold of the original firmward and re-flash it so it can live on.
Could some helpfull person out there please email me a copy of the Netcomm NB1300 Plus4 firmware Customer Software Version: V5.010.1S

If you've got one of these units and know you're running that version you can follow the following to get a copy.
Open up a DOS prompt and enter...(you may also need to know your id and passwords)
FTP 192.168.1.1 (or whatever your modem ip is)
to copy the file to your pc type:
GET config.reg

If you were at the C: then that's where it'll be now.

Thanks in advance...

Which version did you try to flash ? - possibly the upgrade failed and it's not a compatibility issue....

Was...
Firmware Version: ETHADSL_USB_110502_REL10_S
Customer Software Version: V5.010.1S

Now...
Firmware Version: CX82xxx_4.1.0.38
Customer Software Version: NB1300_6_1038_1SD

Under the unit has printed - F/W V5.010.1s

I've done the upgrade following the directions explicitly a number of times with a clean reset each time but no luck.
Link light stops blinking and stays on, I connect via web but some of the screens have errors like...
OnePage Setup screen.
At bottom on right near the Connection Status message there's stuff like 'symbol dns_option unknown! LAN_DHCP_preferred_DNS_server unknown! symbol LAN_DHCP_alt_DNS_server unknown!"
Also can't add port forward entries - add detail and click ADD and clears the screen.
Can't add sessions for NAPT either - similar issue with ADD not working.

I'd say from the way it's presenting it's got some of the correct software in it but other stuff seems it's written for a different installation/version...

I'm not the only person to have these issues as I've been reading but if it's been known to Netcomm I'm surprized they've got nothin in their FAQ's at least about any of this...
