broken screen/res workaround possible?
broken screen/res workaround possible?
Ok, my friend's laptop has a broken screen; the case got trodden on and now the typical black swirly stuff appears at the top left like this:
Now, I know when you use a lower resolution on a laptop, it only uses the part of the screen that represents that resolution; say the screen has max res of 1024x768, and you used 800x600, it would look like this:
Is there a way to shift this "window" across so that the screen is displayed in the unbroken part of the screen like this:
Weird request I know, but she can't afford a new screen.

On my laptop 800x600 takes the full screen like you would expect it to do on a desktop.gazzer wrote: Now, I know when you use a lower resolution on a laptop, it only uses the part of the screen that represents that resolution; say the screen has max res of 1024x768, and you used 800x600, it would look like this:
I've not seen an 'offset' type option on laptops, only on a desktop monitor but I would assume it's a function of whatever the graphics driver can do.

Too new for eBay spares yet, you could try emailing the eBay seller http://stores.ebay.co.uk/LAPTOPSCREEN1-NEW-SCREENS-ONLY they sell new screens, they might be able to tell you if the screen is used in another model and which screen to get? Generally looks like they'll send a screen for about £115 but then you'll have to fit it into the plastic rather than the simpler task of fitting a pulled screen. I don't suppose the machine is under warranty still?
