I just did a firmware upgrade for my Dlink 504T from 2.6 to 2.7 using this file "routertech-ar7rd-adam2-4ports-firmware-20081005.tar.bz2" as recommended by RUC. Followed all the steps carefully, but after the upgrade completed, nothing changed at all! it still says:

Firmware version: RouterTech_3.6.0D_20080723_2.60 (20080723004809)

I used the single image firmware as recommended by RUC too, and upgraded via web browser (usual method).

EDIT: I just tried to flash it again, same results.
The web interface upgrade method is known not to work on D-Link routers; at least on my DSL-G624T.

I use the corrupt image method where I flash the router to the original D-Link firmware first and then from inside it's web interface to RouterTech firmware.

It's painful but it's the only way that works for me.

Does pctool works under Vista x64?

Just upgraded my Aztech DSL600ER to RT2.7 using PCTools2.3 and it seems to be working fine. :D

I do not have a Un*x machine, therefor no man pages...

Trying the corrupted image technique under Vista 'bricked' the D-Link, but thankfully there was a Server 2003 machine available that helped to restore it.

exactly same problem upgrading dsl g604t from fw 2.6 to 2.7

Post by ramesh » Wed Oct 08, 2008 2:23 pm

I have so far attempted four times to upgrade my DSL g604t from fw version 2.6 to 2.7.

All the attempts appear to go through fine, the bar reaches 100 percent in some 3 minutes and screen displays the "Login" page at end. However, logging in just displays the same 2.6 version.

There were no problems upgrading from the original dlink fw to rt's.

I used the "routertech-ar7wrd-adam2-firmware-20081005.tar.bz2" as my
router is a wireless DLINK g604t with 4 ports.

I'm going to try to upgrade via tiupgrade, if anyone has any other recommendations please do tell.

WARNING! tiupgrade= EPIC FAIL!

So after trying to upgrade from 2.6 to 2.7 via web and nothing changing, I thought I might give tiupgrade a try. I edited the .scp file and entred all the correct values for mtds and the new firmware image filename, and launched it and clicked next. After exactly 2 bars in the upgrade process, it gave out a Script Error: EAccessViolation error, Which needless to say bricked my router. Efforts to restore my router using tiupgrade's corrupt image mode did not work (after finally finding my router's factory default ip 192.168.1.199), and still gave the same error after 2 bars. The only thing that worked was using the Official Dlink firmware upgrade utility to flash my router via corrupt method to an old 2007 firmware, and then upgrade that VIA WEB to 2.7 RouterTech. Phew!

So far, it's running good. I think there's alot more RAM free than before (about 4MB instead of less than 2MB). I also think that it didn't want to upgrade from 2.6 to 2.7 via web before because of that. Since the single firmware image was larger than the amout of free RAM I had, it just refused to upgrade and reverted back to 2.6. I could be wrong though.

Anyways, lesson learned... tiupgrade=NOT GOOD!

EDIT: I just noticed something strange, eventhough my router is syncing at good SNR and Line Auttenation values, its detected speed is WAY too low.

Before (version 2.6)
Ds Rate (Kbps) 3047
Us Rate (Kbps) 1021
DS Margin 31
US Margin 12
DS Line Attenuation 31
US Line Attenuation 24

After (version 2.7)
Ds Rate (Kbps) 289
Us Rate (Kbps) 288
DS Margin 31
US Margin 34
DS Line Attenuation 25
US Line Attenuation 15

Needless to say, download speeds are considerably lower.
BTW; My connection is PPPoA VC-Mux.

It's a specific external IP address you want to give access to? Otherwise you can specify 0.0.0.0 and subnet mask 0.0.0.0 to make any address able to access (assuming they use the right port). I assume you mean remote web access btw.

The difference here makes it clear you have connected with a different adsl mode - make sure you have "multimode" selected, I wouldn't be surprised you've ended up in G lite or similar. The margins are also strangely high.

Did you reset to defaults and enter all the details again after flashing?

I hope this is a silly question - you did expand the archive and select the single image from inside?

Low memory is one problem with web upgrades (mtd config and bootloader others), disabling everything inc wireless and usb then rebooting without telephone line connected (to stop services that only start on connection running) may help.

Just flashed an D-link 624T to routertech 2.7 without any problems...been testing it and i came to a problem... i´m trying to set a remote access to the router and every time i set it up and put my ip it crashes and needs to be rebooted and loses my changes....so I'm unable to remote access the router...anyone with the same problem?
It's a specific external IP address you want to give access to? Otherwise you can specify 0.0.0.0 and subnet mask 0.0.0.0 to make any address able to access (assuming they use the right port). I assume you mean remote web access btw.
It worked just fine...now I'm gonna put my mind into darkstat...tnks for the help

Needless to say, download speeds are considerably lower.
BTW; My connection is PPPoA VC-Mux.
The difference here makes it clear you have connected with a different adsl mode - make sure you have "multimode" selected, I wouldn't be surprised you've ended up in G lite or similar. The margins are also strangely high.
No, I have multimode selected, I've tried reselecting it (switching to something else then switching to multimode again) and it still syncs at 288kbps. And the REALLY strange thing is, I reverted back to my old official dlink firmware, and the router still syncs at very low speeds. Is that even possible? If it is, then how can I restore my router to exactly the way it was?
