Better Video player suggestions ? flv/swf
Hi - I'm looking for a free (preferably) video player application that will play .swf and .flv files and allow better playuback control - e.g. pause/frame advance/playback speed control etc.
Any suggestions ?
Jim

What happened? Did you break the "pause" function on the last one?
He ached all over. It wasn't just that his brain was writing cheques that his body couldn't cash. It had gone beyond that. Now his feet were borrowing money that his legs hadn't got, and his back muscles were looking for loose change under the sofa cushions.

SUPER is an excellent free video converter. If any of your current players has that feature, you can use it convert flv or swf files to formats that they support.

Indeed Chief "y"not
...I've got Super and know that I can convert to mpeg etc. and use standard players but I'm really trying to find a native player with the extra funtionality - I've tried a couple of flv players but none so far have frame advance etc....

I use VLC media player, but I'm not sure it has the all features you want...

Thanks Neo - I'll have a look - at this point in time "any" of my wishlist would be an improvement
Jim
P.S. - ever considered writing a media player Neo
P.P.S. In case anyone is interested the reason I'm looking for these features is to allow detailed analysis of Martial Arts Videos from Youtube and similar sites - and not to view "Pr0n" in greater detail as Steve suggested.....
EDIT: - from the docs. it looks like it does support frame advance - but that may be input media dependant of course so I'll try it out tonight.
Not sure if it supports .swf....

...I'll have a look Kieran - I was beginning to think that there must be a structure reason with the file format that didn't allow frame indexing....
Thanks

Well Flash is proprietry and doesn't use the same frame encoding as regular mpeg or similar movie file formatsShotokan101 wrote:I was beginning to think that there must be a structure reason with the file format that didn't allow frame indexing...

...so does this mean you CANNOT frame advance or reverse then ?

...well not in the traditional sense, but you can probably make a good approximation by reading data either side of the current time. The author(s) of MPlayer may well have found a solutionShotokan101 wrote:...so does this mean you CANNOT frame advance or reverse then ?
If they haven't, I could probably come up with a very basic player that could pause after very short intervals to give the impression of frame-advance...
