D-Link DSL-G624T WLAN not working

Post by piter » Fri May 01, 2009 12:47 pm

Hi.
I've got DSL-G624T and some day WLAN refused to work. Now WLAN led isn't blinking and there is no wi-fi connection to the router (altrough router's web interface is working fine). I've tried running RUC and pasted results at the end of this post. Can somebody help me??

Looks like the wlan card might be dead (or disconnected).

First try resetting to defaults and then reconfigure the firmware (making sure that the wireless AP is enabled). If you still don't have any joy, then you need to open up the router and check that the wlan card is properly seated and hasn't come loose.

Hi.
I've already resetted it to factory defaults several times and I've changed firmware to older one and newer one (always the same effect - WLAN seems to be dead). Wireless function in the web interface is enabled. I've opened up the router but I don't know what to check :-(

The wlan card is under the silver plate. You can press it in from the front, and try again - but it seems that the wlan card may be dead.

I've disconnected wlan card and connected it again but with no luck :-( Is there any way to find out if the wlan card is dead for 100%? If I would know it for 100% I could buy wlan card only instead of buying a new router.

I think you've already proved that the wlan card is dead. I don't know how else you would ascertain that.

If the WLAN card is a mini-pci type which most seem to be - then it could theoretically be connected in a Laptop with wireless support assuming it also used a discrete wifi card as opposed to onboard chipset derived.

It was a good idea. I've plugged this wlan card into laptop, installed drivers and it worked just fine! I could connect to wireless network without any problem. Maybe this standard log would tell something more:

The wireless AP on RouterTech v2.9 firmware is disabled by default. Have you enabled it?

Yes, I've enabled it and I've changed SSID, but WLAN isn't working. Is it possible that mini-pci slot is damaged?

At this point, I have no idea. But there is clearly a problem with the hardware.

It's working!!! I've pushed wlan card very strong and the wlan card has moved slightly deeper. I think that somebody has dropped this router and that's why the wlan card was inserted too loosely (I didn't want to damage it at the first time so I wasn't using much power when connecting it). Anyway it's working now and it has got better firmware onboard 8)
Thanks a lot for your help! I'm going to test new firmware now... :D

Hi again :-)
There is one strange thing. I've got this message in log:

Code: Select all

Error getting mac from BootLoader enviroment for wlan0
Using default mac address: 00.50.F1.12.12.10
Is there any way to set up mac adress using web interface? What mac address should I use? There is no WLAN mac address written on the router, there is only one MAC address on it - 00:19:5B:23:4E:55 and it is ethernet mac.

Good news about the resurrected wlan card! :)

Your environment has the "mac_ap" setting (00:19:5B:23:4E:56). Unless it is wrong, I wouldn't be too worried about the log message.

By the way, I assume you reset the firmware to defaults after upgrading?
